PURPOSE: A failure detecting method of vehicle speed and steering sensors for a vehicle is provided to improve reliability by accurately deciding wrong operation of the speed sensor according to signals from speed and throttle position sensors and gear and brake switches and the steering sensor according to signals from steering and vertical acceleration sensors. CONSTITUTION: An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) compares speed from a vehicle speed sensor with the predetermined speed(S100), and compares a throttle position signal from a throttle position sensor with the predetermined range if speed is less than 3km/h(S102). The ECU compares the measured value from a gear position switch with neutral travel condition if the throttle position signal is over 40%(S104), and detects the signal from a brake switch to be off(S106). The ECU decides if the brake switch signal is off for two minutes(S108), and decides and displays the failure of the vehicle speed sensor on a display unit if the brake switch signal is off for two minutes(S110). The normal state of the vehicle speed sensor is displayed on the display unit if the brake switch signal is on(S112).
