<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide a transfer current on a condition suitable for automatization by simple working procedure without wasting recording paper. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a latent image forming means to form an electrostatic latent image in accordance with image data on an image carrier, a developing means to develop the electrostatic latent image so as to generate a developed image on the image carrier, a transfer means to transfer the developed image on the recording paper by applying a transfer current to the image carrier and the recording paper, a density detection means to detect the density of the developed image transferred to the recording paper, and a control means to make the transfer means transfer the developed image by changing the transfer current of the transfer means stepwise for every developed image after a plurality of electrostatic latent images having reference density are formed on the image carrier by the latent image forming means and are developed by the developing means to be the developed image, and make the density detection means detect the density of each developed image transferred to the recording paper in such a case, and decide the transfer current of the transfer means (transfer current applied to the recording paper by the transfer means) by referring to the result of the detection. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
