PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polymer foam which can inexpensively mold the polymer foam by using a substance existing in nature without imparting an adverse influence to an environment and which can further obtain the foamed material by using a crosslinked polymer hard to be recycled. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the polymer foam includes the steps of filling a sheet of a peroxide crosslinked polyethylene in a high-pressure container 14 having openable ducts 12, 13 mounted by valves 10, 11, attaching a cover (not shown), and replacing the air in the container 14 with argon gas. The method further includes the steps of thereafter supplying ethanol from a liquid supply pump (not shown) via the duct 13, setting a temperature of the container 14 to 320°C and a pressure to 20 MPa to dissolve 1-propanol in the crosslinked polyethylene. After the container 14 arrives at predetermined temperature and pressure, the container 14 is quickly cooled, the valve 10 is opened to release the pressure to foam a resin 15.
