PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately reduce flicker, etc. over the whole area of a display screen. SOLUTION: An interpolation processing part 13 generates compensation data DHr corresponding to derivable levels of picture data DR' as to respective reference coordinates by applying interpolation processing of the level direction to reference compensation the data Dref stored in a ROM 12 and it stores the compensation data DHr in a compensation table 14R. An address generating part 17R specifies respective storage areas of compensation data DHr1 to DHr4 corresponding to four reference coordinates existing near the concerned coordinate from among the compensation data DHr stored in the compensation table 14R based on X,Y coordinate data Dx, Dy and the pixel data DR'. An operation part 15R generates compensation data Cmp-R by applying the interpolation processing of the directions of the coordinates to the compensation data DHr1 to DH4 read out from the table 14R. In addition, in the case of a positive polarity writing, the compensation data Cmp-R is added to the picture data DR', however, in the case of a negative polarity writing, the compensation is not performed.
