PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water dispersion containing an electric conductive polymer capable of forming thin films having excellent transparency and electric conductivity, to provide a water dispersion obtained by the method, to provide a coating composition containing the water dispersion, and to provide a substrate having a transparent electric conductive film obtained from the composition. SOLUTION: This water dispersion used for the electric conductive thin films is provided. The method for producing the water dispersion of the complex of poly(3,4-dialkoxythiophene) with the polyanion comprises a process for polymerizing a 3,4-dialkoxythiophene with peroxo disulfate or an arbitrary oxidizing agent as an oxidizing agent in the presence of the polyanion in an aqueous solvent with a pH value lowered with an acid.
