PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide enhanced user-friendliness for communication equipment in the communication equipment and a communication method.

SOLUTION: The level of a receiving signal is detected by means of an S meter 10. A state detection section 11 provides a switch 6 with a signal showing the state of no frame synchronization establishment when processing by a flame synchronization section 3 does not establish frame synchronization even if the level of the receiving signal reaches a fixed level or the higher. The switch 6 provided with the signal showing that frame synchronization has not been established even if the level of the receiving signal is reaching the fixed level or higher selects and outputs specified data on audible sound provided from a synthesizer 7 and generates the audible sound from a speaker 9. The switch 6 selects and outputs voice data supplied from a decoding section 5 when the frame synchronization is established and generates sound from the speaker 9. Thus, a user recognizes the state of the communication equipment only by listening.
