PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing method for the end of an optical fiber, for details, a processing method for forming a recess on the end face of the optical fiber, and to provide the optical fiber processed by the method. SOLUTION: In the processing method for the optical fiber, the end of the optical fiber is immersed in an etching solution so as to form the recess on the end face of the optical fiber. In the processing method for the optical fiber, the recess is made nearly paraboloidal. The etching solution including HF whose concentration is the same as or higher than the concentration of NH<SB>4</SB>F by mass reference, or the etching solution in which HF is included but the NH<SB>4</SB>F is not included is used in order to form the recess.
