PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the dead space produced between an under surface of a device body 2 and a base shaft 7. SOLUTION: The recording and/or reproducing device is provided with a holder 6 which holds an information recording medium 5 inserted into the device body 2, a rotational driving mechanism 59 which rotationally drives the medium 5, an optical pickup 64 which records or reproduces information signals to or from the medium 5, a base chassis 7 which is disposed below a holder 6 and is disposed with the mechanism 59 and the optical pickup 64, and a loading mechanism which attaches and detaches the holder 6 and the base chassis 7 to a vertical direction. The loading mechanism brings the holder 6 and the base chassis 7 into proximity to each other when the medium 5 is inserted into the holder 6. The mechanism detaches the holder 6 and the base chassis 7 from each other when the driving of the medium 5 is stopped. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
