PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for recording and reproducing run length limiting codes to form and record run length limiting codes adequate for obtaining optimum equalization characteristics. SOLUTION: The device for recording and reproducing the run length limiting codes to generate, record and reproduce run length limiting code strings is provided with: a generation means (105) which gradually decreases the number of the continuous minimum times of the same codes and generates a plurality of kinds of the code strings in accordance with a plurality of kinds of the run length limits; and recording means (101, 102, and 103) which record a plurality of kinds of the code strings generated by the generation means in the trial writing region of an information memory medium.
