PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a conversional relation involved in the generation of data of a plurality of coloring materials, e.g. ink, having an identical color tone and difference densities with high accuracy, and to print out an image using a color space of multiple types of coloring material to the maximum. SOLUTION: Data of a recordable patch is generated (S502) within a range causing no overflow of ink for a combination of four colors of Y, M, C and K and based on its colorimetric value, a basic four color separation table pertaining to a combination of prescribed target colors of Y, M, C and K is made (S503-S505). With reference to a maximum quantity of coloring materials being used, a possible total quantity of coloring materials being used is calculated for a combination of six colors of Y, M, C, K, Lm and Lc coupled with gray level inks (S506). M an C are then separated to gray levels according to the possible total quantity of coloring materials being used for each combination thus making a color separation table of a combination of six colors of Y, M, C, K, Lm and Lc.
