PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for cleaning a guide roller which enable rotation and control of the guide roller in a small-scale constitution and in a simple manner. SOLUTION: Two or more expansive-contractive pads 30A and 30B are disposed at positions offset by L from the axis of the guide roller 20. Each of the pads 30A and 30B has a rubber sheet 32 fitted on the side pressing elastically the guide roller 20 and is brought into contact with and detached from the guide roller 20 by supplying air into the pad and discharging it therefrom. When the air is filled in the pad 30A, the guide roller 20 is rotated by a moment of rotation generated therein. When the pad 30B is pressed elastically at the same time as the pad 30A is detached, the moment of rotation is generated continuously in the guide roller 20. By expanding and contracting the pads 30A and 30B alternately, the guide roller 20 is rotated forcibly. When a state of the air being filled in the pads 30A and 30B is held, the guide roller 20 is braked forcibly. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
