A cost effective method for embossing sheet material has an embossing plate clipped to the print roller of an offset press using two locating studs on the roller and two corresponding slots in the front edge of the plate, and with the plate secured by the same clamps as are used to secure the print web. No additional alignment aids are required. A support plate is fitted to the pressure roller in a similar manner, providing rapid conversion from printing to embossing. The paper feed system remains unaltered.
