A plug (3, 4) is inserted into each end of a helical spring (2). The plug (3, 4) is provided with several helical grooves (9, 10) for the accommodation of the outer end (7, 8, 11, 12) of the wire which is of a smaller diameter than the groove (9, 10), resulting in a tolerance (a, c, d) facilitating a limited motion when the spring (2) is deformed and increasing the rigidity of the spring unit (1). The same applies for the front of the plug (3, 4) which is also fitted with a small tolerance (b).
