Shot cartridge (2) contains a number of shot granules (20) or shot pellets having a core and a coating or casing surrounding the core. The coating is made from a combustible material which ignites during firing of the cartridge in a shotgun by friction on an inner side of a run of the gun and/or on parts of the cartridge. The combustion produces an illuminating flame and/or visible smoke. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the above shot cartridge.
