Bulk particulate material is thermally processed in a chamber (1) in which it is caused to vibrate. The movement is induced via the gaseous environment which is vibrated at controlled amplitude and frequency to generate intensive movement without causing fluidization. Independent claims are included for process arrangements, and specifically for dryers.
