PURPOSE: An image recording/playing device for reducing the spacial waste of a hard disc drive is provided to automatically optimize a hard disc drive space without any manual work when recording or deleting files to or from the drive. CONSTITUTION: An image recording/playing device for reducing the spacial waste of a hard disc drive includes a cluster forming part(401), a capacitance information searching part(403), a cluster searching part(405), and a file recording part(407). The cluster forming part forms a plurality of clusters with different size when formatting a hard disc drive. The capacitance information searching part searches capacitance information of a file from attribute information of the file. As the capacitance information is searched, the cluster searching part compares the capacitance information of the searched file with the plurality of clusters formed by the cluster forming part, thereby searching a cluster proper for storing the file. The file recording part records the file to the searched proper cluster.
