Method for determining the remaining power or charge available in a storage battery has the following steps: determination of the battery response curve within a given time interval of drawing power from the battery; linearization of the response curve; and determination of the remaining charge based on the gradient of the linearized response signal within the given time interval. The invention also relates to a monitoring device for a storage battery.
