A vehicle comprises a differential controller 28 arranged to control the degree of locking of its centre 22, front 24 and rear 26 differentials. The differential controller is arranged, on failure of various components or systems on the vehicle to enter a failure mode in which its operation is modified so that the differentials 22, 24, 26 are locked when the vehicle speed is low and unlocked when it is high. This maximises traction at low speeds to aid vehicle recovery, and reduces the interference from the differentials with operation of systems such as the stability control system at higher speeds. |
