Sheet feeding means for a rotary printing press comprises two sets of independently laterally adjustable unitary structures each comprising a set of feed rollers and a set of bridging members for bridging the gap between the rollers and a conventional sheet conveyer. Associated with each unitary structure and movable therewith are an associated set of joggers for the sheet stack and the feed rollers may be provided with ramp tapes for guiding the sheets from the stack to the feed rollers, in which case guide and tensioning rollers for the tapes are also movable with the respective unitary structures. Sheets are separated by an air jet (24) and delivered by suction means (26) from a stack 18 to left-hand and right-hand sets of feed rollers 22 co-operating with drop rollers (27) to feed the sheets over bridging members 60, 61 to a conventional conveyer table 16 having feed tapes 15. The left- and right-hand sets of feed-rollers 22 rotate on individual shafts 34. Individual control means (98) operate on brackets 92, 93 arranged to encircle waist portions of the innermost feed rollers, whereby they may be moved laterally along shafts 34. Each roller of a set is fast with a single key member 106 running in a key-way (107) running the length of the associated driving-shaft so that lateral shift of the inner roller as above described effects corresponding shift of the other rollers on the shaft. Lateral shift of the brackets 92, 93 also causes lateral shift of shafts 37, 38 having a square section 62 respectively which carry the bridging members 60, 61. Joggers (23) arranged to abut the stack, except during the feeding operation, are controlled from a cam mechanism 43 via ball joints (54), (56) to facilitate lateral displacement, which latter is effected by the engagement of an eccentric member (112) on the jogger shaft 31, with the control bracket 93. Sprung tensioning rollers (68) for the ramp tapes 66 are also mounted on the square portions (62) of the shafts 37, 38. Guide rollers (72) for the ramp tape are carried in yokes (73) screwed to a rod (75) secured to rods (76) rotatably mounted on the shafts 37, 38. A control mechanism (80) operates via ball joints (87), (88) on the rod (75) to raise or lower the guide rollers (72) whereby the steepness of the ramp may be adjusted for different thickness of the sheets to be fed. |
