The device has a lock catch and a locking pawl with main and pilot locking positions in which the catch is held by the pawl, which can be coupled to an actuating element operated by an electric motor to raise the pawl from the catch. A switch is provided for switching the motor on and off. The actuating element has a control cam that actuates the switch, which is additionally operated independently by the pawl. The device has a lock catch (1) and a locking pawl (2) that can be brought into main and pilot locking positions in which the catch is held by the pawl. The pawl can be coupled to an actuating element (9) operated by an electric drive motor (7) to raise the pawl from the catch. An electrical or electronic switch (10) is provided for switching the motor on and switching it off, especially by short circuiting it. The actuating element has a control cam (11) that actuates the switch, which is additionally operated independently by the pawl.
