PURPOSE: A securities counting device having a serial number extracting function and a method thereof are provided to calculate securities by feeding many securities automatically and to store or output images of securities by recognizing kinds of the securities and extracting serial numbers of securities. CONSTITUTION: Many securities are loaded on a hopper(100). If securities on the hopper(100) are sensed by a hopper sensor, a clutch is turned on and a paper feeding roller is operated, and the securities are entered in a device. An automatic paper feeding device(102) divides the many securities into one by one and feeds the securities. A transferring unit(104) feeds securities to a discharging opening through a contact image sensor(106) and a magnetic sensor. A selector(114) selects to a proper discharging opening and discharges securities in accordance with a processing result of fed securities. If securities are inputted in the wrong way, or a serial number is omitted, the securities are discharged to a reject pocket(116).
