Calculating a power ratio between a pilot channel and an associated traffic channel in a mobile communication system

A channel estimator generates a first signal from the pilot signal. The first signal is used to channel-compensate the traffic channel signal, generating a second signal. Absolute values of the symbols constituting the derived, the absolute values in a predetermined length of signal ordered, and an average value calculated from the absolute values. The square of the absolute value of the second signal is calculated and the power ratio derived as the ratio of the average value to the squared value.
