A sewing machine needle free from combined troubles of stitch skipping and fabric yarn breakage, irrespective of high-speed and multifunction sewing machines and diversified materials being used. The sewing machine needle includes a shank (1), a blade (21, 22) connected to the shank (1), a needle point (6) formed at an extremity of the blade (22), a needle eye (5) formed in the vicinity of the needle point (6), and a long groove (7) extending from the needle eye (5) along the blade (21, 22). The blade (22) is provided at a portion thereof where the scarf (4) is formed with a crank (8) in such a manner that a side of the portion is outwardly protruded in a direction opposite from the scarf (4) with respect to a central axis (O) of the needle. An end (9) of the needle eye (5) contiguous to the scarf (4) is protruded outward by a predetermined height (d) from a contour of the blade (22). <IMAGE> |
