1,187,437. Printing labels. NEW JERSEY MACHINE CORP. 26 Jan., 1967 [28 Jan., 1966; 26 May, 1966], No. 29282/69. Divided out of 1,187,431. Heading B8F. The subject-matter disclosed is similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,187,438, but the claims relate to a method of printing labels in a continuous web, wherein as well as printing the label indicia, detectable matter is printed using an ink differing from the label indicia ink and having an unapparent, but detectable physical characteristic, e.g. luminescence, fluorescence, phosphorescence or the property of being magnetizable. Preferred forms of the web are similar to those disclosed in the parent Specification, the web being for use in the labelling machine disclosed therein. The detectable matter constitutes the marks used either for controlling the feed and cutting of the web or for verifying the labels. An offset printing press, Fig. 1 (not shown), includes three printing units (12-14) for successively printing on the web in superposed relation the required label images. A split-ink fountain, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be provided for supplying visible ink and invisible ink to relevant areas of the offset plate.
|
