The wheel lock assembly includes a housing (10) that is either integrally formed on a frame (B), or provided as a separate component for adjustable mounting on the frame (B). The housing (10) includes a circul ar opening (12) that receives a disk (20) that rotates relative to the housing (10). A handle (30) is either integrally formed with the disk (2 0) or, alternately, secured to the disk as a separate component, to selectively rotate the disk relative to the housing. An actuating shoe (40) is pivotally mounted to the housing and includes a cam opening (44) that cooperates with a pin (46) secured to the disk (20) at a position spaced from the central axis of rotation of the disk to convert the rotational movement of the handle and disk into translational movement o f the shoe (40). This allows the shoe to be moved between locked and unlocked positions relative to the wheel (C) of a wheeled apparat us such as a wheelchair, patient transport, stroller, or the like. The cam opening (44) may also adopt alternative configurations to vary the travel of the shoe as desired.
