[Also in Divisions A2 and B5] A tube or capsule, used in a method of preserving animal and vegetable matter (see Division A2), comprises ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide encapsulated in a material pervious to the vapours of the oxide. The preferred encapsulating material is polyethylene, but ethyl cellulose, rubber hydrochloride, cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate and polypropylene are also specified. A package, for preserving animal and vegetable matter contained therein (see Division A2) comprises a laminated sheet wrapped round the matter and crimp sealed, the laminated sheet comprising a first lamina formed from a solution of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide dissolved in a film-forming fixative material, a second lamina of material impermeable to the oxide bonded to one surface of the first lamina and optionally a third lamina of material pervious to the vapours of the oxide bonded to the other surface of the first lamina. The second lamina forms the outside surface of the package. An intermediate layer, e.g. of paper, may be present between the impermeable lamina and the oxide containing lamina. Suitable lamina materials include: first lamina -a solution of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide in a polyethylene glycol polymer or in cellulose nitrate; second lamina-aluminium foil or heavy waxed paper; and third laminapolyethylene or cellulose acetate.</p> |
