PURPOSE: A composition containing water or ethanol extract or powder of persimmon leaves, buckwheat leaves or buckwheat flowers is provided which reduces body weight of animals without adverse effects. CONSTITUTION: Persimmon leaves are heated in water for 1hr at 100deg.C and filtered. Persimmon leaves are heated in 95% ethanol for 1hr at 80deg.C and filtered. A mixture of buckwheat leaves and buckwheat flowers is heated in water for 1hr at 100deg.C and filtered. The mixture of buckwheat leaves and buckwheat flowers is heated in 95% ethanol for 1hr at 80deg.C and filtered. The health food for reducing body weight of animals includes 0.01 to 20% by weight of any one of the above extracts.
