摘要 PURPOSE: An LCD device for reducing a size of screen and a method for the same are provided to reduce power consumption by using a backlight driving circuit for driving selectively the first and the second lamps according to a variation of operating conditions. CONSTITUTION: An LCD panel(310) is formed with a plurality of gate lines(G0-Gn) and a plurality of data lines(D0-Dm). A plurality of pixels are arranged on intersecting points between the gate lines(G0-Gn) and the data lines(D0-Dm). The pixel is formed with a TFT(T1), a liquid crystal capacitor(CL), and a storage capacitor(CS). A gate and a source of the TFT(T1) are connected with a gate line and a source line, respectively. A gate driving circuit(320) is connected with the gate lines(G0-Gn). A source driving circuit(330) is connected with the data lines(D0-Dm). A plurality of switching transistors(SW1-SW2) are connected between the gate lines(Gi-Gn) and the gate driving circuit(320). A plurality of switching transistors(SW3-SW4) are connected with the gate lines(G0-Gi). A gray scale voltage generation circuit(340) is connected with the source driving circuit(330). A backlight unit(360) is connected with the LCD panel(310). A power supply portion(370) supplies electric power to an LCD device(300). A timing controller(350) generates control signals necessary for the gate driving circuit(320) and the source driving circuit(330) in response to color signals, horizontal synchronization signals, vertical synchronization signals, and clock signals provided from a graphic controller(410) of a computer(400).
