SUBSTANCE: coding/decoding device of positioning interpolator unit has differential-modulation processing unit that functions to convert key values in field data in case of rotary motion into quaternionic form; digitizing unit for digitizing data on key values processed by means of differential pulse-code modulation; variable-length coding unit for variable-length coding of digitized difference data on key values; reverse digitizing unit for reverse digitizing of digitized difference data on key values; quaternion multiplying unit for quaternionic multiplication of difference data on key values given reverse digitizing operation and for multiplying result by previous decoded key value; delay unit that functions to delay output signal of quaternion multiplying unit; prediction unit incorporating prediction order control function that receives delay unit output signal, predicts input value to be coded, and affords variable control of prediction order.
