A filter contains a device for eliminating the collected soot, in particular using an electrical resistance and/or regenerating soot combustion. A detector is placed near and/or in the deposit zone so the conditions of the soot deposited on the detector is similar to that in the deposit zone. The detector allows the moment of activation of the means of eliminating the soot. The detector allows the moment of activating the device for elimination to be determined as a function of the amount of soot collected in the deposit zone. The detector is in the form of a resistance and variation in the electrical characteristics are measured, or the detector is a condenser and the variation in electrical characteristics are measured. An Independent claim is included for a process using the above filter, where the soot is collected in the deposit zone of the filter and then the device for elimination is started, with a stage in which the moment of activation is determined using data from a detector near and/or in the deposit zone. |
