FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compounds of the formula (I): alpha wherein and R1 represent R2-alkoxy-group; (C1-C3) represents hydrogen atom, R3-alkyl, (C1-C3)-alkoxy-group or (C2-C3)-alkenyl; R4 represents-alkyl; (C1-C6) and R5 represent independently R6-alkyl, (C1-C6)-alkenyl, (C2-C6)-alkynyl or aralyl being each of them can be substituted optionally with (C2-C3)-alkoxy-group, (C1-C3)-alkyloxycarbonyl or (C1-C3); NR7R8 and R7 represent independently R8-alkyl; or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt excepting for 2,6-dimethoxyphenyl-2-(diethylamino)propionate and 2,6-dimethoxyphenyl-2-(diethylamino)- butyrate. Also invention proposes pharmaceutical composition comprising an active compound and eliciting hypnotic effect. As an active compound the pharmaceutical composition contains derivative of (C1-C6)-amino acid phenyl ester of the formula (I) by cl. 1 or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt in mixture with pharmaceutically acceptable accessory substances. Invention provides preparing derivatives of alpha- amino acid phenyl ester used as hypnotic agent for initial narcosis and for maintenance of general anesthesia.
