<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet for ink jet recording which shows outstanding ink absorption characteristics such as ink absorption rate and ink drying characteristics and also shows superb ink absorption and pigment fixing properties even when a pigment ink is used. <P>SOLUTION: This sheet has a coloring material receiving layer formed on a support and the coloring material receiving layer contains a silica fine particle having 2 to 3 silanol groups per 1 nm<SP>2</SP>formed on the<SP></SP>surface and a water-soluble resin within the range of a mass ratio of 1.5 to 10.
