<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically determine whether a race body runs a track course clockwise or counterclockwise. <P>SOLUTION: A lap time measuring system comprises two or more furlong stations installed on the track course, and a furlong station controller 13. When a race horse passes either a first or third furlong station (Step 60), the passing time of the race horse through each furlong station is stored (Steps 64, 73) in a buffer after that, and passing time values of the race horse at adjoining two furlong stations are compared (Steps 66, 75).
