PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a camera and a focusing device capable of realizing higher-speed focus control on an object aimed by a photographer by rapidly canceling focusing on an unintended object which is apt to occur in multi AF. SOLUTION: In the camera, a 1st candidate point is decided out of a plurality of points in an image by pressing a first release switch 25a, and a 2nd candidate point different from the 1st candidate point is decided out of the plurality of points by pressing a second release switch 25b. The operation of a specified switch by the photographer is detected by a changeover switch 31, and the 1st candidate point or the 2nd candidate point is selectively changed over by a BCPU 22 according to the detection state of the switch 31.
