PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric oscillator and its structure that satisfy requirements of miniaturization, low profile and a low cost and obtain high reliability and stable characteristics. SOLUTION: An oscillation circuit section, a piezoelectric vibration element 2 and a metallic ring 7 are mounted on a flat wiring board 1, and the piezoelectric vibration element 2 is mounted inside the metallic ring 7. Furthermore, the oscillation circuit section is mounted outside the metallic ring 7. The metallic ring 7 and a metallic lid 8 on the flat board are air-tightly sealed under an inert gas atmosphere such as of dry nitrogen gas or under a high vacuum. The low profile is attained and the number of components can be reduced by directly mounting the piezoelectric vibration element 2 inside the metallic ring 7 mounted on the flat wiring board 1, resulting in decrease in the cost. Furthermore, the piezoelectric vibration element 2 is air-tightly sealed under an inert atmosphere such as of dry nitrogen gas or under a high vacuum to avoid deterioration in characteristics due to a secular change. Moreover, a metallic enclosure package comprising the metallic ring 7 and the metallic lid 8 provides a package with excellent thermal conductivity and high strength. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
