PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding method which enables a tool to grind a workpiece with uniform contact pressure even if the workpiece has a surface contour that largely varies its radius of curvature in a small area. SOLUTION: According to the method, a plane obtained by adding an area of unit movement (oscillatory movement) of the tool to be used to an effective size of the same, is assumed as a virtual tool face, and a plurality of predetermined points on the periphery of the virtual tool face are superposed on a designed curved surface until the points match the same. At this time, a tilt angleαof the virtual tool face around the center shaft in an oscillating direction and a tilt angleβof the same around the center shaft in a scanning direction are calculated, and these angles are set as tilt angles of the actual grinding tool.
