PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a nonwoven fabric for protecting the surface of a coil-shaped metallic sheet which is thin in thickness, has high modulus, excellent in a property when the fabric is interposed between the metallic sheets and wound with a reel and useable not only in a rolling stage but in a surface finishing stage and the coil-shaped metallic sheet. SOLUTION: (1) This fabric is a nonwoven fabric using a thermoplastic synthetic fiber the average fineness of which is≤5 dtex and has a flat shape in the cross section of a fiber and the nonwoven fabric for protecting the surface of a coil-shaped metallic sheet which has the coating weight of 10 to 50 g/m<SP>2</SP>, the thickness of≤0.2 mm and the 5% intermediate stress of≥30 N/5cm in the longitudinal direction and the breaking ductility of≤30 %. (2) This method is a manufacturing method of the coil-shaped metallic sheet in which the nonwoven fabric for protecting the surface is reused in the rolling stage after using it in the surface finishing stage.
