PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lap separator for nesting a second part here by separating a front lap and a rear lap of a first sheet material part folded in a pocket by enlarging a time window for separating the front lap from the rear lap while coping with a fluctuation in the size of the front lap and the rear lap. SOLUTION: A lap separator system has a movable separator carrier mutually connected so as to be pivotally movable, having a front wall and a rear wall for forming a sheet receiving opening part together and opening a sheet in the pocket for traveling at a given speed in the carrying direction and a separator connected to the carrier. The separator carrier carries the separator at a speed faster than the given speed along the pocket in the carrying direction. The separator successively comes into contact with the rear wall, the sheet in the pocket and the front wall, and successively releases the rear wall, at least a part of the sheet in the pocket and the front wall.
