PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomass gasification method, which may be a small-scale one, for producing a highly calorific clean fuel gas suited for a power generation gas engine in high yields from biomass resources. SOLUTION: In the biomass gasification method wherein the gasification reaction of steam with biomass is caused endothermically in a gasification space where crushed biomass is gasified with fed steam by externally heating it through a partition without actively feeding oxygen thereinto, the molar ratio, steam/biomass, is set at 0.3-15.
