PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire tomograms of a same position of a same subject easily, quickly, accurately, and automatically. SOLUTION: An MRI apparatus comprises a static magnetic field coil 2, a gradient magnetic field coil 3, a power source 4 of the gradient magnetic field coil, an irradiation coil 5, a transmission system 6 for irradiating the subject with an RF (radio frequency) magnetic field from the irradiation coil 5, a receiver coil 7 and a receiving system 8 for detecting echo signals released by the NMR phenomenon, a signal processing system 9 which computes for imaging reconstruction by using the echo signals detected by the receiving system 8, a display means 10 for displaying images, an operation console 11 for controlling them, a storage device 12 for accumulating data, a table 15 moving into a casing body 14 with the subject 1 loaded, a motor 16 which moves the table 15 by the previous moving amount stored in the storage device 12 after a photodetector 18 receives light from a projector 17, and a potentiometer 19 for measuring the moved amount.
