The steamer (1), especially for a cooking appliance using steam, has a housing (3) with at least one water inflow (4), at least one water outflow (5) and at least one steam outlet (6). A heater (9) evaporates at least part of the water in the housing, to form steam. A reactor (20) with at least one reactor bed is in the housing between the water inflow and outflow, with at least one ion exchange material (24). The ions enter the water to precipitate and/or flock matter carried in the water to form calcium nucleation.
