The valve contains an electromagnet that acts on a movable valve body and is subjected to a coil current (10) with a rising and falling switching edge (11,12). The method involves superimposing a braking pulse (13,14) on the coil current at a time interval from the switching edge of the valve actuating coil current to retard the movement of the valve body.
