It is intended to disclose a novel polypeptide which is useful in screening an insulin resistance improving drug and a saccharometabolism improving drug; a polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide; an expression vector containing the polynucleotide; and cells transected with the expression vector. The above-described polypeptide is a protein expressed specifically in skeletal muscle. Adipocytes with the overexpression of this protein show an elevated ability to take up sugar. It is also intended to disclose a method of screening an insulin resistance improving drug and a saccharometabolism improving drug with the use of the above-described polypeptide; and a process for producing a medicinal composition for improving insulin resistance and improving saccharometabolism which comprises a substance obtained by the above screening method as the active ingredient.
