HIGH-DENSITY WRITE-ONCE RECORDING MEDIUM EMPLOYING DEFECT MANAGEMENT, DEFECT MANAGEMENT METHOD AND APPARATUS

PURPOSE: A high-density write-once recording medium, a defect management method and apparatus are provided to record information on a write-once recording medium while avoiding a defect on the recording medium so as to improve reliability of the recording medium. CONSTITUTION: A high-density write-once recording medium records data in a predetermined recording unit. The data is recorded in the recording unit and then verified(S103). When there is a defect in the verification result(S104), no data is recorded in the region of the recording medium where the defect is generated. Data recorded in the defect region and data recorded after the defect region are rewritten in the next region(S105). The recording unit is a track unit composed of clusters. The recording medium further records information about the defect in a predetermined region.
