PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interface for handing off computer system information. SOLUTION: The interface includes a data structure stored in a computer-readable medium. The data structure has a field for the component data regarding a component of the computer system. The data structure can be used to store a first program filling in the component data by using identifiers for locating the component data in the data structure. The first component can discover the component. The component data is accessible by a second program indexing the data structure with the identifier.
