PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that there is a need for improving the resolution of detecting the operation position of manual operation means in order to improve the resolution of the position to stop a Variooptik and focusing optical system. SOLUTION: The optical apparatus is provided with drive units 12 and 13 for driving optical elements 4 and 2, operation means 27 and 28 for instructing the driving of the optical elements by manual operation, a magnetic scale 21 and magnetic sensors 22F and 22Z moving relatively accompanying the operation of the operation means and a control means 40 for controlling the drive units in accordance with the signals outputted from the magnetic sensors by the relative movements of the magnetic scale and the magnetic sensors. The control means controls the drive units in accordance with the number of times of the periodic changes of the signals outputted from the magnetic sensors when the changes in the signals outputted from the magnetic sensors represent the operation at a speed higher than the prescribed speed of the operation means and the control means controls the drive units in accordance with the values of the signals outputted from the magnetic sensors when the changes represent the operation at a speed lower than the prescribed speed of the operation means.
