PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cartridge provided with a sensor in which alteration of detecting conditions can be dealt with flexibly. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 10 is provided with a sensor 17 for detecting ink and the controller 22 of a printer 20 transmits a command of detection along with the detecting conditions to the cartridge 10 side by radio. The cartridge 10 receives the command and a sensor control section 19 drives the sensor 17 under the commanded detecting conditions thus oscillating the sensor. Since the sensor 17 is disposed oppositely to a resonance chamber 18 provided in an ink containing chamber 16, oscillation frequency is regulated by the resonance frequency of the resonance chamber 18. The resonance frequency differs depending upon presence/absence of the ink, and therefore, detection of the resonance frequency can give information on presence/absence of the ink in the chamber 18 and on the residual amount of the ink in the cartridge 10.
