PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rapidly and simply carrying out quantitative assays related to proliferations and activities of various microorganisms without destroying the microorganisms, a method for examination for drug sensitivity, with which the antimicrobial activities of various antimicrobial agents against miscellaneous bacteria are evaluated using the assay method and a kit therefor. SOLUTION: The method for assaying the proliferation and/or activity of the microorganism comprises incubating the microorganism in a culture solution together with coenzyme Q and determining a product by a chemiluminescence method. The method for examination for drug sensitivity comprises incubating the microorganism in the presence of the antimicrobial agent in the culture solution together with the coenzyme Q, determining the product by the chemiluminescence method and evaluating the sensitivity of the microorganism to the antimicrobial agent from the determined viability and activity of the determined microorganism. The kit for evaluating sensitivity of the microorganism to the antimicrobial agent comprises the antimicrobial agent, coenzyme Q and a luminous reagent. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
