PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter-receiver with a small circuit scale at a low manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The transmitter-receiver 1000 is provided with a physical layer signal processing section 1 connected to an IEEE 1394 bus to realize a physical layer in compliance with the IEEE 1394 standards; a link layer signal processing section 2 connected to the physical layer signal processing section 1 and realizing a link layer in compliance with the IEEE 1394 standards; a data transfer control means 100 connected to the link layer signal processing section 2; and n pieces (n is an optional natural number) of external interfaces 6a to 6n connected to the data transfer control means 100. The data transfer control means 100 is provided with n pieces of protocol control sections 8a to 8n; m pieces (m is an optional natural number) of storage sections 12a to 12m; a selection section 11 to which the protocol control sections 8a to 8n and the storage sections 12a to 12m are connected; a capacity decision section 10 connected to the selection section 11; and an external input section 9 connected to the capacity decision section 10.
