PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device which is improved in usability by making a display unit freely detachable on a device body and enabling selection of a mounting position. SOLUTION: An upper body 12 of the folding-type portable electronic device 101 is provided with an internal housing section 15 on the side facing a lower body 13 in a state where the device is folded, an external housing section 16 on a side to be exposed, and each housing section has a connecter section 17 for electrically connecting to a display unit 11. When the device is carried, the display unit 11 is attached on the external housing section 16, thereby enabling a user to confirm the display with the device folded. Furthermore, attaching the display unit 11 on the internal housing section 5 enables the user to confirm the display while performing key operation with the device open. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
